Kenny Dalsheimer : Documentary Filmmaker

I began work as a documentary filmmaker and videographer in 1997 after teaching middle school for ten years at Carolina Friends School in Durham, NC. My interests and training in anthropology (MA, Duke University, 1985) informed much of my teaching, and inspired me to create a variety of innovative multidisciplinary courses related to US and world history, mythology, Native American studies, African-American music, media studies, and civic issues. Today, I apply my anthropological background and teaching experience to my documentary work and community outreach and education projects.

I actively create during all aspects of my video projects and have been able to take advantage of technological breakthroughs of the digital video era. I write grants, produce and direct documentaries, shoot and edit digital video, and work closely with clients and artists in the creation of video projects. The collaborative aspect of filmmaking and video production recharges and challenges me. In recent years, I have taught youth video workshops in diverse settings. These workshops combine hands-on training in video production while promoting technical skills, media literacy, critical thinking, cooperative learning, and youth empowerment. I also teach adult nonlinear editing and Final Cut Pro workshops.
