Production ServicesThe Groove Productions offers digital video production services for projects that require personal, artistic vision, not just a technician. Of particular interest are projects that support community groups working for social change and community development. All work is fast, responsible and conscientious. It includes soup to nuts production work to freelance videography to simple or complex editing tasks. Past projects include fundraising pieces for the NC Humanities Council, the Achievement Academy, and Genesis Home of Durham, freelance shooting for local and national producers, and production of web videos for Duke University's BOOST program.  We invite you to contact us with any ideas and questions about projects you want to see created.

"Kenny's training in anthropology, his work as a classroom teacher, and his ongoing committment to community education allow him to think broadly and to connect on many different levels...He understands the non-profit world, possesses the intellectual acuity to take on wide-ranging subjects, and has a wonderfully developed sense of collaboration." - Douglas Quin, Ex. Director of the NC Humanities Council

"Kenny's ideas were artistically and conceptually helpful in reaching our goal. We are very pleased with the resulting video that will be even more helpful to us that I had originally envisioned! - Karen Crumbliss, Research Associate, Developmental Disabilities Training Institute at UNC-Chapel Hill

"Many thanks for all your hard work on the video. It was an excellent storyteller and a big hit at the NYC benefit. The encouragement, support and advice you have always been so willing to share has been at the heart of our work and survival. There was no one better to tell the story of a space to call home than you."
- Ed Hunt and Jeff Storer, Manbites Dog Theater, Durham, NC

"Kenny, I just dropped your vcr off and spoke with Marybeth. I told her what a great job you did on that video - I couldn't believe how good it was. We've dropped it off to make reprints so we can send it to other funders. I know we will want to show it off. Thank you very much for working with us. We couldn't be more pleased."
- John Bell, Durham County Habitat for Humanity, Durham, NC

Youth Video and Documentary Arts Workshops
The Groove Productions offers video production and editing workshops to youth and adults at our studio and at various locations in and out of town. Our educational programs have included projects at A New Day Juvenile Day Reporting Center, workshops offered through the Durham Arts Council and Creative Arts in the Public and Private Schools, the Cary Youth Video Project, Final Cut Pro Editing Workshops offered through the Center for Documentary Studies and the Empowerment Project, and an Artist Residency at the Boys and Girls Club of Nash/Edgecombe Counties.

" Kenny has a tremendous ability to bring out the best in my students. I've come to think of what he does as 'surprise-magic'. In the end, the student work looks fabulous and the true learning and effort is evident in the video projects. We are deeply appreciative for all that Kenny brought to our students and program."
- Dr. Amy F. Elliott, Program Director, A New Day Reporting Center

"You are that unique individual that combines a thorough knowledge of craft with the ability to collaborate with community partners in the realization of organizational objectives. As an independent filmmaker, your artistic vision is revealed in the films you make. You share knowledge gained from the pursuit of those artistic experiences, as well as the technical expertise gained that adds value to every project you pursue."
Sara Maultsby, Supervisor, Page-Walker Arts and History Center, Cary, NC

Collaboration with Artists
The Groove Productions works closely with artists who want to document creative work or combine their art with the video medium. These projects have taken a variety of forms, such as video recordings of live performances, video installations at art galleries and theaters, and video adaptations of stage performances. We invite artists with questions or ideas to call or email The Groove Productions.

Family Documentaries and Personal Videos
These special projects are created for individuals and families to document and celebrate important life events and honor individual family members. Family Documentaries weave together any combination of old photos and movies, interview footage, music, and titles. Projects are tailored to meet all kinds of budgets.

"Thanks so much Kenny! Everyone loved the video, especially my Dad who sat with a box of tissues next to him dabbing his tears."
- Annie Caulkins
